Voici notre interview de Steffan Lökin, formé au NSI Runavík et qui évolue depuis le début de saison au B68 Toftir en Betri Deildin, la division élite aux Îles Féroé, auteur de 4 buts en 18 matchs de championnat. Il a accepté de répondre à nos questions, de ses débuts européens avec le NSI face à Aberdeen, à son père premier joueur féringien à évoluer en France, jusqu’à ce but mémorable face à l’Équipe de France Espoirs il y a quelques jours.

Pouvez-vous nous raconter vos débuts footballistiques au centre de formation du NSI Runavík ?
J’ai vécu à Runavík toute ma vie, et je le fais toujours, donc pour moi le NSI Runavík est un club qui me tient à cœur. J’ai toujours joué pour NSI avec mes amis et nous avions une équipe incroyable quand nous étions plus jeunes avec beaucoup de bons joueurs dont certains d’entre eux évoluent aujourd’hui dans l’équipe nationale A et à l’étranger. Et pour moi, le football est plus qu’un simple jeu, vous avez tellement d’amitiés incroyables au fil des ans et c’est vraiment important d’apprécier cela aussi.
Vous avez quitté votre club formateur et évoluez depuis cette année au B68 Toftir, quel a été l’accueil réservé lors de votre arrivée et comment se passe votre saison à titre personnel et collectif ?
Le passage à B68 Toftir était parfait pour moi, mon contrat au NSI Runavík a expiré cette année et j’ai eu quelques offres et je pensais que le meilleur était celle de B68. Je leur parlais plusieurs fois et ils voulaient construire une équipe avec de jeunes joueurs et quelques expérimentés.
Vous avez notamment participé à la qualification historique de la sélection U17 à l’Euro 2017, pouvez-vous nous parler de cette belle expérience ?
Oui, c’était un voyage incroyable. Nous avons joué le premier tour de qualification au Luxembourg, le premier match était contre la République Tchèque, nous avons gagné 2-0 et j’ai marqué mon premier but en équipe nationale. Donc pour moi ce match est un grand souvenir. Puis nous avons perdu 3-0 contre la Suisse, puis fait match nul 2-2 contre le Luxembourg. Nous avons ensuite été au tour élite, à Chypre où nous avons perdu le premier match 4-0 contre l’Irlande, puis fait match nul 0-0 contre Chypre et ensuite nous avons gagné 2-1 contre la Slovaquie.
Ce fut une expérience incroyable pour nous tous et nous en parlons encore lorsque nous nous rencontrons et ainsi de suite.
Pouvez-vous nous raconter votre préparation, match et après-match face à l’Équipe de France après ce fabuleux résultat et notamment votre but égalisateur ?
Nous savions que le match allait être difficile, parce que la France est une très bonne équipe, peut-être la meilleure équipe de moins de 21 ans au monde. Donc nous nous sommes bien préparés et Bagge Sámal Erik Hentze et Atli Gregersen avaient un plan de match qui fonctionnait très bien. Tout le monde travaillait très dur et s’est concentré sur ses propres tâches sur le terrain.
Quand ils ont marqué à 1-0, j’ai pensé que cela pourrait être très mauvais. Mais nous avons travaillé dur à chaque fois, et je pense que notre but est arrivé au bon moment. Nous avons eu plus d’énergie et tout le monde a été prêt à mourir l’un pour l’autre.
Quelles sont vos inspirations à votre poste au pays et à l’étranger et quel est le meilleur joueur que vous avez affronté ?
Bien sûr, mon père est une grande source d’inspiration, il ne jouait pas tout le temps en tant qu’attaquant, mais tout ce qu’il a accompli dans le football est incroyable. Mais si je dois prendre un attaquant des îles Féroé et un autre de l’étranger, ce doit être Klæmint Olsen et Cristiano Ronaldo.
Les meilleurs joueurs que j’ai affrontés, Aaron Connolly avec l’équipe nationale U17 et Scott Mckenna avec le NSI Runavík contre Aberdeen.
Vous êtes avant-centre, quels sont selon-vous vos qualités et axes de progression ?
Je pourrais être meilleur dans de nombreux domaines, mais je pense que mes points forts sont que je suis rapide et que j’ai un bon œil non seulement pour les buts, mais aussi pour mes coéquipiers, et je suis également fort dans les airs.
Si je dois choisir une chose à améliorer, c’est de garder le ballon.
Quels sont vos rêves dans votre carrière de footballeur et objectifs avec la sélection A des îles Féroé si vous y arrivez ?
Je n’ai pas beaucoup de rêves, j’aime beaucoup jouer aux Îles Féroé et avoir une bonne vie avec ma petite amie et peut-être avoir des enfants bientôt. Bien sûr, ce serait bien de jouer pour l’équipe nationale A une fois, mais pour le moment, je me concentre uniquement sur les moins de 21 ans et d’obtenir de bons résultats avec B68.
Avez-vous déjà reçu une offre de contrat d’un club étranger ?
Oui, mais rien d’intéressant pour moi. J’aime juste rester ici. Mais si je reçois la bonne offre d’un club où je peux voir un certain potentiel, bien sûr, je tenterais le coup.
Votre père Abraham Lökin est le seul joueur des Féroé à avoir évolué en France à Boulogne de 1993 à 1994, seriez-vous tenté de jouer en France si l’occasion se présente un jour ?
La ligue Française est une très grande et bonne ligue, mais comme je l’ai dit, j’ai besoin d’être sûr à 100% que c’est la bonne chose à faire, si j’y vais.
Oui, il allait effectivement chercher un travail à Boulogne, vendeur de poisson, puis il a reçu une offre pour rejoindre le club de la ville et puis ma mère et mes 3 frères et sœurs aînés ont également déménagé en France. Mais il n’était là que pour 1 an, parce que ma sœur a eu de mauvaises nouvelles à cause d’une maladie. Mais il aimait être en France, et y est allé plusieurs fois depuis, pour des vacances.
Pouvez-vous nous parler en quelques phrases du football aux Îles Féroé et notamment de la Betri Deildin pour essayer de convaincre certaines personnes d’y jeter un œil ?
La Betri Deildin, est bien meilleur qu’on ne le pense réellement, avec plusieurs bonnes équipes qui ont beaucoup de potentiel. Mais en ce moment, le KI Klaksvík est de loin la meilleure équipe de la ligue, et je pense qu’ils se qualifieront bientôt pour la phase de groupes de la Ligue Europa.
Quel genre de football regardez-vous ?
Je ne regarde que le football européen, et je suis un grand fan de Liverpool et de Jurgen Klopp, et en ce moment, c’est plutôt bien d’être un fan de Liverpool.
Mais à part ça, je pense que le football en Europe est de loin le meilleur au monde.
Que pensez vous de vos fans étrangers qui suivent comme moi avec passion le championnat et la sélection ?
C’est incroyable de voir que les fans de football de l’étranger s’intéressent à la ligue féroïenne, et je l’apprécie beaucoup.

Here is the exclusive interview of Stefan Lokin, trained at Nés Soknar Ittrotarfelag Runavík, he makes the decision to join the B68 Toftir the day before the start of the 2021 season of Betri Deildin author of 4 goals in 18 league games, he decided to answer our questions, from these European debuts with the NSI against Aberdeen to this memorable goal against the French team hope.
Can you tell us about your football debut until you entered the NSI Runavík training centre ?
I have been living in Runavík all my life, and i still do, so for me NSI Runavík is a club that is close to my hearth. I have always played for NSI with my friends and we had an amazing team when were younger with many good players and some of them are now playing on the A national team and abroad today. And for me football is more then just a game, you get so many amazing friendships trough the years and it´s really important to appreciate that also.
You left your training club and have been playing since this year at B68 Toftir, what was the reception you received when you arrived and how is your season going personally and collectively ?
The move to B68 Toftir was perfect for me, my contract at NSI Runavík did expire this year and I had some offers and I thought the best was from B68. I was talking to them a few times and they wanted to build a team with young players and a few experienced.
You participated in the historic qualification of the U17 selection for Euro 2017, can you tell us about this great experience ?
Yeah, it was an amazing journey. We played the first qualifying round in Luxembourg, first match was against Czech republic we won 2-0, and I scored my first National team goal. So for me this match is a great memory. Then we lost 3-0 to Switzerland, and then draw 2-2 against Luxembourg. Then we were truh to elite round, in Cyprus, we lost first match 4-0 to Ireland, then drew 0-0 against Cyprus and then we won 2-1 agains Slovakia. This was an amazing experience for all off us, and we are still talking about it when we meet and so on.
Can you tell us about your preparation, match and post-match against the French team after this fabulous result and in particular your equalizing goal ?
We knew the match was going to be difficult, because France is a very good team, maybe the best under 21 team in the world. So we prepared good and Bagge (Sámal Erik Hentze) and Atli (Gregersen) had a game plan that worked very well.
Everyone worked very hard and had focus on our own tasks on the pitch. When they score to 1-0, I thought that this could possibly be very bad. But we did work hard every time, and I think our goal came at the very right time. We got some more energy and everyone was ready to die for each other.
What are your inspirations for your position at home and abroad and who is the best player you have faced ?
Of course my Dad is a big inspiration, defiantly he wasn’t playing as a striker all the time, but everything he has achived in football is amazing. But if I should take one attacker frome the faroe islands and one frome abroad it must be, Klæmint Olsen and Cristiano Ronaldo.
The best players I have faced, Aaron Connolly with U17 national team and Scott Mckenna with NSI Runavík against Aberdeen.
You are a centre-forward, what are your qualities and areas of progress ?
I could be better at many areas, but I think my strong sides are that I´m fast and have a good eye not only for goals but also for my team mates, and I´m also strong in the air.
If I should pick one thing to improve then it´s holding on to the ball.
What are your dreams in your football career and goals with the Faroe Islands A team if you succeed ?
I dont have many dreams, I like very much just playing in the Faroes and have a good life with my girlfriend and maybe get some children one time. Of course it would be nice to play for the A national team one time, but right now I just focus on under 21, and to get some good results with B68.
Have you ever received a contract offer from a foreign club ?
Yes, but nothing that was interesting for me, I like to just stay here, but if I get the right offer from a club where I can see some potential, of course I would give it a shot.
Your father Abraham Lökin is the only Faroese player to have played in France at Boulogne from 1993 to 1994, would you be tempted to play in France if the opportunity ever arises ?
The France league is a very big and good league, but as I said, I need to feel 100% sure that it´s the right ting to do, if I´m going.
Yes, he was actually going to look for a job in Boulogne, selling fish, then he got an offer to join the Club of the city and then my mother and my 3 older siblings also moved to France. But he was only there for 1 year, because my sister got bad news due to an illness. But he loved to be in France, and has been there many times since, for a vacation.
Can you tell us in a few sentences about football in the Faroe Islands and especially about Betri Deildin to try to convince some people to take a look at it ?
The faroese Betri Deildin, is much better than people actually knows. Here are many good teams that have a lot of potential. But right now KI Klaksvík is by far the best team in the league, and I think they soon will be qualifying for the Europa league group stage.
What kind of football do you watch ?
I only watch European football, and I´m a big fan of Liverpool and Jurgen Klopp, and right now it´s pretty good to be a Liverpool fan.
But apart from that, I think the football in the europa is the by far the best in the world.
What do you think of your foreign fans who follow the championship and the selection with passion like me ?
It´s amazing to see that football fans from abroad are interested in the faroese league, and I appreciate it very much.
