(English version below)

English version :

Oscar Aga, a young player from Grorud, carries his team with 16 goals scored in 16 games and is currently Obos Ligaen’s top scorer. We learned a few days ago about his transfer to Elfsborg, in Sweden, we came back with him about his career, his ambitions and his vision of football.

Can you introduce yourself and your journey ?

I’m Oscar Aga, I am 20 years old and I was born in 2001. I am a striker who loves to score goals. I would say I am a smart striker who is good to find the right positions inside the box. Quick movements and good to time my runs in order to be in positions where I can shoot from.

I started playing football in my childhood club Lyn fotball. When I was 14 years old I moved to stabæk and played at their academy. When I was 17 I signed my first professional contract with the first team. I went on loan to Grorud at the end of the 2019 season. It was a success and we got promoted to the OBOS league. Then I signed a permanent deal in January 2020 and I’m very happy with that.

You were trained by Stabaek but unfortunately they didn’t keep you despite your good games with the reserve at 17, what do you have to say about that ?

I had a good time at Stabæk and played well with the second team, but unfortunately did not get the chances I wanted with the first team, so I decided to try something new. Take a step one division down in order to play regularly.

Do you think a future return to Stabaek is possible ?

You never know, maybe someday. But not now, my focus is not at Stabaek at the moment.

You finished top scorer at Grorud last season and now you scored 16 goals in 16 games in Obos-Ligaen, what are your goals (objectives) ?

I have already completed my goal that I put before this season (which was more than 15 goals) So now I have set a new goal (I will keep the number for myself) as well as I would love to end the season as the top scorer in obos ligaen.

Which championship would suit you the best for your style of play and in which would you like to play later ?

I must say I do like the Swedish league. Allsvenskan is a very good league, and in my opinion a better league than Eliteserien with more top teams. There are many teams fighting in the top, and there is a lot of interest around the league. It has a lot of passionate fans and a good league to develop and later move on to a better club.

You are a very good finisher but are you more comfortable being alone in attack or do you prefer to be supported on the sides ?

Both works for me, I am good to adapt, so as long as I get a lot of balls inside the box I am happy. I like to be inside the box from crosses, but I can also combine together with a second striker or a number 10.

What is your best quality and your biggest flaw for you ?

My best qualities are my movements, especially inside the box, and the ability to create chances by myself.

One thing I would like to improve is to be even more involved in the build up play and as a target man who can take down balls and keep it in the team

Grorud has a complicated season, you’ve scored 72% of your team’s goals, do you have more pressure about that ?

I don’t actually. I am just happy because I get a lot of chances and goals. I believe in myself and my teammates believe in me so I feel confident in front of goal.

You said a few days ago you wanted to stay in Grorud this year, is it a way for you to thank this club for trusting you ?

Yes, and I would like to end the season in style. And do everything I can to help grorud play in obos ligaen next year too.

In the Norwegian team the competition is tough with Haaland, Sørloth or Botheim, do you think you will have your place in this squad someday? Is this a main goal for your career ?

It is definitely a tough competition and Norway has a lot of good strikers. But of course it is a dream to play for the national team, so I hope it will be possible one day.

You played the U17 Euro with players like Tagseth, Kitolano, Kristoffer Askildsen, Kornelius Hansen, Cornic, Noah Jean Holm, … What do you think about your generation ?

I definitely think it is a good generation, and Norway has a lot of promising young players coming up.

We also asked Eirik Kjønø, his former coach in Grorud, what he thought of him. He said :

He is a very intelligent player. You can see that in movements and how he reads rebounds. He is also hard working, big winning mentality but always smiling when coming in for training.

Thanks to Oscar Aga for his availability and time. Wishing him the best with Grorud and then with Elfsborg. Thanks also to Eirik Kjønø for participating in this interview.
