English version

Today, football in the Faroe Islands is in full development, particularly in terms of training, based in particular on what Iceland has been able to do recently. If more and more young Faroese are starting to impose themselves and to export themselves, a name is already making people talk about him on the archipelago, Thomas Bjørn Miezan.

This young man of 16 years old surprises more by his precocity, but the subject of his potential is already clairvoyant him who recently joined the youth teams of FC Copenhagen. To know a little more about him, we are going to present him to you through three questions:

1. Who is Thomas Bjorn Svenningsson Miezan?

Thomas is a young Faroese footballer with Ivorian origins, an attacking midfielder who can also easily be placed in a winger role. Born on April 15, 2006, he quickly immersed himself in football and at the club with the most licensees in the archipelago, Havnar Boltfelag Torshavn. He evolves in young team in the various championships of the lower categories and in the popular European tournaments where the HB is invited. Thomas Bjørn Miezan, is a new example of the quality of training at HB Torshavn who also recently released Samuel Chukwudi (2003) who joined the youth teams of Union SG in Belgium.

2. Why is his name mentioned today?

His name comes up abundantly on the archipelago because he signed with the U17s of FC Kobenhavn, a club in the Danish capital. In view of these performances as a young person on the archipelago, the recruiters of the famous club immediately seized the opportunity to recruit him. The export and transfers between Danish-Faroese clubs being at its peak, such an opportunity should not be missed in order not to see him join a competitor like Midtjylland or Bröndby. He was on loan from FCK to his training club until this summer, the time to finish his school year on the archipelago, where he made appearances in the group with a first appearance in Betri-deildin with the A’s but above all left at the disposal of team 2 in the second division, with three games since his return so one goal.

He was already able to make his debut with the FC Copenhagen jersey at the beginning of June by participating with the U17 team in the 24th edition of the great “International Football Tournament” which took place in Lille in France. Promising beginnings since with his team, they won the tournament by winning against Athletic Bilbao after eliminating AS Monaco and Anderlecht.

“This signing is in line with our strategy to bring the greatest Nordic talents to FCK, who, with the right development, can reach a high international level. – Mikkel Køhler, Head of Recruitment at FCK Youth Department.

3. What are these ambitions? What are the expectations around him?

Many young Faroese have tried the experience in Denmark in the Superligaen (first division) and in 1. Division (second division) but some were certainly surprised by the difference in level between Danish and Faroese football. We therefore hope that the young hopeful will break the codes and will know how to adapt to a new environment which he rubbed shoulders with only for a short time when he started with the young teams. As did his two Faroese predecessors at the club Todi Jónsson and Brandur Hendriksson. In terms of the national selection, Thomas, who is currently playing with the U17s, has the ambition to settle in A in the long term, to perhaps beat Fróði Benjaminsen’s tenure record one day, which stands at 95. selections. He also wants to qualify the archipelago of fifty-three thousand inhabitants for a major international competition so that the federation is seen as capable of competing with the behemoths as in qualifying for the European Cups.

“Thomas has the physical qualities to become a top-level player. In addition, he has both technical and tactical understanding. He’s a happy boy who likes to get used to what he can’t do for a long time. We see him as a talent with great potential, we are happy to see at FCK, because we hope to be able to train him even more” – Mikkel Køhler, Head of Recruitment at FCK Youth Department.
